‘I Remember You’ is the newest track to be taken from ‘INSOLO’, the second solo album by Spandau Ballet songwriter and Saucerful Of Secrets guitarist and co-lead vocalist, Gary Kemp.
On this cinematic song, ‘I Remember You’, Gary continues to explore one of the key themes of his new album with a nostalgic glance back appraising the various phases of life. Gary explains “ There’s no third person here. The object of memory is me; the young man or boy I once was. We are a series of different people throughout our lives and I was trying to look back on some of those incarnations of myself, now gone. It’s a reverie and Lily Carassik’s dreamy trumpet alongside my floating guitar sound hopefully helps to create that atmosphere.” Gary takes charge of the vocals, guitar, and programming. Toby Chapman joins him on piano and backing vocals, with Guy Pratt on bass, Ged Lynch on drums/percussion and Lily Carassik on trumpet.
The video for ‘I Remember You’ was directed by Charlie Lightening (As It Was...Liam Gallagher). Shot at dawn and infused with a reflective mood, Gary Kemp takes a trip down memory lane walking past locations in Soho, London (Billys, Le Beat Route, Le Kilt and Grouchos) that were important to his career journey as a young man and musician.
Gary Kemp will feature on the season premiere of Sky Arts ‘The Great Songwriter’ which airs on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th October. It features four exclusive performances (‘Ahead of the Game’ + ‘Waiting for the Band’ from his ‘INSOLO’ album; two Spandau Ballet classics Gary has written, ‘True’ + ‘Through the Barricades’) as well as an intimate interview. This is Sky’s classic series of original portraits of legendary songwriters discussing their creative processes and inspirations.
Twenty-five years on from his solo debut ‘Little Bruises’ Gary Kemp has written and produced a new album ‘INSOLO’ that focuses on two dominant themes: the paradox of solitude in an urban landscape, and his growing obsession with life seen through a rear-view mirror and how the past infects our present.
